Status Verification Interface (SVI)

What is the SVI Status Verification Interface?

Use the CTPAT Status Verification Interface (SVI) to verify whether a vendor, supplier, or business partner is CTPAT-certified. SVI stands for Status Verification Interface — a tool found in the CTPAT Portal to:
    • check if a company is CTPAT Certified
    • monitor the CTPAT Certification status of a company
    • send official proof of certification to a company that does not have access to the SVI page
Only CTPAT Certified companies have access to the SVI page. CTPAT-eligible companies that are not yet certified, as well as companies located outside of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, often ask their certified trade partners to provide proof of CTPAT certification. Because these companies cannot log into the portal themselves, the certified partner can use the “Send Certification Email” button inside the SVI tool to request that the portal send an automated certification email on their behalf. The email is sent from industry.partnership@dhs.gov within seconds of pressing the button, giving the requester official confirmation of the partner’s CTPAT status directly from CBP. If your company is not CTPAT certified, start the process here.

For non-CTPAT companies in your supply chain that don’t appear in SVI, you’ll need to assess them through a CTPAT Business Partner Audit instead.

SVI FAQs

What does SVI stand for?

SVI stands for Status Verification Interface. It’s the CBP tool inside the CTPAT Portal used to verify CTPAT certification status.

What if a company is asking me for our SVI number?

There is no longer such a thing as an SVI number. In the past, CBP assigned each CTPAT-certified company an SVI identifier (it could look like a code such as):

  1. ae8z41b2-t3cb-87jh-9d13-84e2mpe6c781
  2. oboImp92011

Companies would share their numbers with each other and verify within the CTPAT Portal if they were CTPAT certified. Many CTPAT certified companies wouldn’t verify if a business partner’s SVI was valid or if it matched the business partner’s company name. Instead of using an SVI number, CBP now requires companies to verify CTPAT membership through the SVI page inside the CTPAT Portal. This is done via the SVI tool in the CTPAT Portal. To show up in the SVI page, your Company must be a CTPAT certified company/member. If you’re not currently certified, you will not show up in the SVI page. Check if your Company is eligible to be a CTPAT certified member here.

Can I verify a company’s CTPAT certification without being a CTPAT member?

No. Only companies with CTPAT Portal access can use the SVI tool. If your company is not CTPAT certified, you cannot access the portal to verify another company’s status yourself. Start the CTPAT Certification process here.

What if a company sends me an “SVI number”?

An SVI number is not useful anymore. CBP eliminated the ability to verify certification using SVI numbers more than 10 years ago. The only valid way today is through the SVI page in the CTPAT Portal.

How do I check if a company is CTPAT certified?

If your company is CTPAT certified:

  1. Log into the CTPAT Portal
  2. Go to the SVI tab
  3. Search for the company
  4. Send a request to monitor the company

The company must accept your request before monitoring begins.

What if the company doesn’t show up in the SVI search results?

That may mean:

  1. They are not CTPAT certified
  2. Their account is inactive
  3. Their profile is not searchable through SVI because the company is not participating in the SVI
  4. The company name is different than expected (try alternate spelling or formatting)

Can I send proof of certification to a customer or vendor outside my company?

Yes. The “Send Certification Email” feature inside the SVI tool is designed exactly for this situation. A certified company can enter the recipient’s email address and, within seconds, the CTPAT Portal sends an automated message from industry.partnership@dhs.gov confirming that the certified company is an active partner in the CTPAT program at the certified-or-above status as of that date. This is the recommended way to share proof of certification with CTPAT-eligible companies that are not yet certified, or with overseas partners based outside the U.S., Canada, and Mexico who cannot access the SVI page themselves.
